Legal Education and Experience

Matthew completed his PGDL with distinction at BPP University, followed by an LLM in Law and Legal Practice (Solicitor), also with distinction. He qualified as a solicitor in 2026. 

As part of his legal training, Matthew completed a six-month secondment with the trust and estate disputes team at a Chambers and Partners Band 1 international law firm in London, gaining invaluable insight into contentious trust and estate planning matters.

Areas of Practice

Matthew's practice draws particularly upon his combined medical and legal background and includes:

• mental and testamentary capacity;
• contentious trusts, estates and inheritance disputes;
• succession planning involving complex family circumstances;
• the interaction between medical evidence and private client law; and
• family governance and planning where individual vulnerability or capacity is a material consideration.

Medical and Legal Background

Following his medical training, Matthew worked as a resident doctor and associate specialist in psychiatry across East Anglia and South East England, serving in physical health medicine during the COVID-19 pandemic. He was offered a highly competitive consultancy run-through training programme in intellectual disability psychiatry before transitioning to law. His transition was informed by his fascination with the interplay between medicine and law, and a particular interest in mental capacity from his extensive experience with complex assessments during the pandemic.
